Updated: May 1, 2008(WEST PATERSON, NJ)- While most kids will be swimming and surfing this summer, others will be laying the smackdown with Hulk Hogan bodyslams and John Cena dropkicks!
This July and August, the Independent Wrestling Federation hosts the eighth annual Pro Wrestling Youth Summer Clinic at IWF Centre, 32 Willow Way, West Paterson, NJ. Session one takes place July 11-12-13, and session two is August 8-9-10. Daily session time is 10 am to 4 pm, and the three-day clinics are open to boys and girls ages 12-17.
Kids learn basic moves and techniques in a friendly and safe environment under the direction of recent World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) performer Kevin Knight, a 13-year ring veteran and IWF head trainer.
"This amazing program provides kids a taste of what it's like to be a wrestler and gain an insight into the dynamic world of sports-entertainment," said Knight. "It's a chance to get active during the summer break from school and have some fun!"
IWF stars appear as guest instructors. All participants receive an IWF shirt and free event tickets. On the final day of each session, kids perform in a live exhibition for their families and friends. Kids who participated in previous clinics will learn new and more advanced moves and techniques.
"Our kids will have a blast as they emulate their favorite wrestling stars under complete supervision in our padded ring…its great exercise and an incredible experience they will never forget," Knight added.
Last summer, more than 30 youngsters from four states, including as far away as Tennessee, hit the mat during the popular clinic. For information or to receive an application, call 973-345-7745 or visit WrestlingIWF.com.
Established in 1999, IWF School trains hundreds of wrestlers from 16 states and six countries that compete in professional bouts around the globe. Knight and 16 of his graduates performed on WWE Raw and SmackDown television events and pay-per-view extravaganzas.
