It’s My Life!

It is amazing how the greatest things occur in the most unlikely of places. I was sitting in the dentist’s chair yesterday for a check-up and I had a very interesting conversation with my dentist. She began talking about her time at the University of Hartford and how much she learned there. One of her professors gave her a great piece of advice that would stick with her for the rest of her life. She said, “Don’t ever wish your life away.”

All too often, we are waiting for a certain period of time in our life to pass. We would rather skip the journey and arrive at the destination, instead of enduring the hard work that it takes to get there. A college student is being bombarded with school work and an employee at a law firm is being smothered by the busy season are both wishing it would come to an end.

However, in doing that, we would be deprived of meaningful moments that we would regret missing later on in our lives. When you talk to adults that used to play football, all they can say is, “Cherish every moment on that field because it will be gone before you know it.” This advice was given to me from my DENTIST, someone who had to have gone to school for at least 8 YEARS. It would be so easy to speed through that time of your life, but you would be missing out on 8 years. And everyone must remember, no one is promised a certain amount of time on this Earth. People don’t know what they have till it’s gone, and anything can happen.

If you live your life to the fullest, happily and healthy, you will be able to look back on your life and smile. If you just roll out of bed and walk through life like a zombie, your misery will be over before you know it. Did this quote necessarily wake me up? No, because I was never asleep. But, this quote will help me when there is a long day of hard work ahead and I can say, I am grateful for the time I have, let’s go!
